Kaila's First Day of School

Waffle Breakfast

Kaila couldn't wait for the first day of school.  She carefully picked out what clothes to wear and couldn't wait to take her new backpack and lunch box to school.  I love her enthusiasm for her first day.  Sadly my alarm didn't go off so we were running late.  I had just gotten up when Grandpa arrived when I was hoping to have left for school.  Thankfully I had prepped the night before waffle mix with everything else all measured out ready to go and made the whip cream, and cut the strawberries and had the waffle iron out and ready to heat.  Vaughn got the iron going and helped make the waffles for me while I got Kaila all ready and took some pics of her outside while we waited for her waffle to finish.  Today she thankfully ate quickly and then she and I rushed to school and thankfully were on time for her first day.  I felt terrible about rushing her but glad she could still have a yummy breakfast and made it on time.  I helped her get settled into her classroom, met her teacher and student teacher, got pics of her, and then went home.  I'm sure she will have a great year this year.  Her teacher just had a baby last year too who is a little girl that's 7 months old.  It's nice to have an instant bond with someone.  I know it's helped her remember who Kaila is too which is nice.

One thing I loved most was that the students from the previous year wrote letters to the new students about what they will learn about this coming year.  It was fun to see what they wrote (also to realize that Kaila can already spell better than the second grader that wrote her letter). It was nice to know she's going to do fine in second grade.

her know what she was going to learn this coming year.

Kaila was having a hard time walking to school in her black church shoes so I told her I would bring her up some different shoes later with the other kids.  We came while she was at lunch and got to enjoy recess with her.  It was fun to get to experience a little bit of her first day with her.  Thankfully I brought two different sets of shoes and right after recess she had PE which worked out well for her since I brought a pair of tennis shoes for her to wear.

I was so excited to hear about how her first day had gone.  I walked up to the school to pick her up and we got to walk home with our dear neighbor, Makenna too!  The day went well and she had fun.  She told me all about the behavior chart how they go up or down the chart and she was grateful for the shoes I brought her too.  She loves her teacher and I'm relieved to hear that.  I hope she has a GREAT year in second grade.
