Day of Singing

Today I had prepared an awesome singing time.  I was a little nervous to see how it would go but it turned out awesome!  I was so happy about that.  I came up with a word/picture puzzle of the next song we would be learning next month and over that put pieces of paper cut into puzzles and then on that songs to sing and then over that with the same shape different color of paper the numbers 1-9 that they could choose from.  The song was "I Will Follow God's Plan."  I put up a picture of an eye= "I", then a "w" "+" a picture of a sick girl = "ill", [so w+ill=will].  Then a picture of people following each other=follow, a picture of Joseph Smith with God and Jesus =God, and a picture of the Plan of Salvation = Plan.  With a little help from the teachers the junior primary were able to figure out the entire puzzle and we got through all 9 songs.  Senior primary got through 6 of the songs but we sang through the verses of the songs.  It was a lot of fun!  Senior primary was a little crazy...especially the boys.   I loved the activity and I think they all did too.

We had a fun surprise today at church.  Nana and Pa (Eileen and Jim) joined us since they were heading out to the coast that afternoon.  The kids LOVED having them there.  Addie sat by them almost the entire time.  Such fun.  Glenn even drew Nana a beautiful coconut tree with parrot and said it was for her birthday.  Such a sweet boy!

Kevin was telling Kaila that Grandpa (Vaughn) said his favorite part of church that day was having Kaila sitting next to him and singing the song with him. He loved having her be able to read the words and sing along.  I too am LOVING her being able to read and what a glorious new world has opened up to her. This morning Kevin was reading through Grandpa's talk that he gave last week while we were gone for Ellie's baby blessing.  He put it on the table by me so I could read it but I was in the middle of a conference address.  Kaila turned the talk around and started to read it while she was eating her breakfast and then finished reading it on the couch when she was finished eating.  How I LOVE that girl!  I then told Vaughn this at church and I could tell he was pleased and touched that she would take the time to do that.  Especially for a 6 year old.  She's such a sweet spirit.

After church we couldn't find Kaila's journal that she had just started keeping.  She was very distraught over it.  I figured it was at church and no one was going to steal a notebook that she had written in.  After Kevin looked all over we decided to head to my parents to get some of our meat we have stored there to defrost for our meals this week and by the time we were finished with that it was almost time for Damascus Ward's Sacrament to be let out.  We drove home the long way by the church and Kevin went in and looked at the pew we were sitting at.  Brother Miller was sitting there and had the notebook.  He found in with the hymnals.  Kaila shouted for joy when Kevin walked out the door with her journal in his hand!

Addie was so tired that she crashed on the way home.  The poor girl has been not going to bed at night but still getting up at a regular time.  That coupled with going to preschool is wearing her out.  I carried her inside and laid her on the couch to finish napping. Kaila, the caring sister that she is, got her a blanket, took off her shoes, got her a stuffed animal from her room, and was bringing the sound machine when Kevin spied her and said she didn't need it.  Addie is so lucky to have Kaila for a big sister to watch over her.

After getting a snack I sat down to work on next weeks singing time see if I wanted to make any changes from the week before when I put it together.  I decided I did and Kaila and Glenn both sat beside me on the couch and we went over different songs to sing the next week.  It was so much fun.  I also went through a bunch of action songs on the computer to see if there were any new songs we hadn't been singing that are fun and easy to learn.  "Fun To Do" was one of those songs. Kaila loved it.  She wanted to sing it for Grandma and Grandpa later when we went over there for dinner.  I agreed and she went upstairs to get to work.  Little did I know that an entire performance was brewing in her sweet little head.

We were privileged to eat a yummy sausage vegetable stew at Kevin's parent's house.  It was tasty.  Suzi said it was one of Kevin's recipes.  It was and I actually love it with all the different veggies which I normally shy away from them when they look all mushy.  Kaila did a great job eating her food and being so polite at the table.  Addie and Glenn had harder times with the food.  I barely gave them any to eat.  Addie wouldn't eat it but the sausage (though later she did so she could have ice cream).  Glenn ate two bowls one to have more rolls.  ;-)

Once dinner was over Kaila borrowed Grandpa's music stand and put her hymn book she brought and her page of script and the other page of song titles and lyrics.  Little did I know she had put together a 10 song list for us to sing.  It was so cute though how she had me with speaking parts and she too had speaking parts for the script before hand.  I got some of the songs to be for everyone and some with the other kids. I had Kaila sing two songs while I signed them which was fun and added variety.  We turned it into our Family Home Evening since we will be at a dinner group tomorrow night.  It was wonderful and so fun that she did it all on her own.  She asked me if I had fun and I told her I did.  I asked her if she did and she said, "Yes, I loved singing with you."  That melted my heart!  I just love that girl!!
