June 28, 2009

The beach yesterday was fun. [We went to Indian Beach (Ecola State Park) by Cannon beach and then up to Fort Stevens State Park and Shipwreck beach.] There were a LOT of people there and the parking lot was full to the first place we were trying to get to so we just had lunch at the view point which was beautiful. The kids loved it. We took a little hike up the hill to the furthest view point.

Boredom= nose picking

We then headed to another beach ("Ship Wreck Beach") to meet up with everyone. It was fun to let DD climb all over it. She LOVED looking out all the windows of the ship.
It was tons of fun. Kai loved the sand but HATED the cold water. She actually only stepped on the wet sand and freaked out. I brought sand buckets and shovels to play with and the kids loved that. My brother brought two kites and DD with my help flew one. I tried the four string one my brother had. It was fun but HARD. Sand got everywhere though and sadly LM got burnt pretty bad. I don't know how that happened since he was wrapped in a blanket wearing a hat the whole time. It's weird. I feel so sorry for him. I got some and DD a little on her cheeks. I just feel like a horrible mother. I've been slathering Aloe on him all night last night and this morning. I hope it heals fast! We also stopped by the fort and museum and walked around. It was really neat to see the canons and barracks that were used. They has some for the kids to climb on/around/in. DD loved it and all the attention from her cousins. DH stayed in the car with LM while he slept and took a nap himself which was good since he was driving home. The sun just drains you.

My brother is awesome at flying kites!

DD flying her FIRST kite!

Me trying to fly the kite (almost hitting DD too)

DH flying the kite and sucessfully hitting our niece. Ü

On the way home we hit a traffic jam. After sitting in the car stopped and the kids starting to get VERY cranky and tired we turned around hearing that it was a car fire. We stopped by a local store and he told us a detour route around it. It took us on an hour and a half detour through the countryside only to end up 5 miles further up the highway we were originally on. It was a VERY long drive home with tired and hungry kids and parents. It ended up taking us 4.5 hours to do a 2 hour trip. NOT FUN!!!

DH and I forgot we had a DVD player installed in the car and once traveling through the country became our saving grace for DD.

Today after church we are heading to my parents for dessert and to hangout with the rest of my family and visit since my brother's family is taking off tomorrow morning. It will be sad to see them leave but it's bee fun having them here. My little sister comes into town Tuesday night so that will be fun!

DD LOVES her dishes--one of the best scores from Craigslist

I think LM is going to pass up DD soon in the footwear department. She's still in a 5 (can kick them off too but can wear a 6 with really thick socks.) She's got tiny feet like her grandma. LM's in a 2 which DD was in at 1.
